WV SOUTH RANKS THE BEST GOLF HOLES IN SOUTHERN WV
In the previous issue of West Virginia South I gave you the Beauties, the nine most scenic holes in southern West Virginia, plus a mulligan. No easy task, considering the bevy of beauties from which to choose. As promised, the back nine is made up of the toughest, most challenging holes available to the general golfing public. To be considered for this most prestigious list a hole need only be within a reasonable day's drive and require both shot-making and a variety of strategies as to how it might be played. To qualify as a "beast," holes must be simultaneously fair and penal.
Like the men and women who tread upon them, the characters of these golf holes have been shaped by the mountains they are a part of or that tower above them. All par 4s save one par 3, these beasts are testaments to the difficulty of the game so many of us love.
